able to escape by jumping out of a second floor window. fire crews remain on the scene as you can see from this live picture from sky fox. two firefighters were injured. one ever them when the floor collapsed. we have no word on what caused that fire. tonight, vice president joe biden and republican vice presidential nominee paul ryan face off in the first and only debate. pressure is on with president obama showing a slip in the polls following last week appear presidential debate. many are predicting more fireworks than what we saw when president obama and romney took the stage last week. a former aide to d.c. mayor vincent gray's election campaign will not face jail time. howard brooks was given two years probation and 200 hours of community service. brooks pleaded guilty to charges he lead to federal investigators after he was accused of paying mayoral candidate suleiman brown to bad mouth former mayor adrian fenty during the heated 2010

campaign. the judge took into consideration the fact that brooks is helping the fbi with its investigation into gray's campaign. today, the national zoo will release a cause of death for its newborn panda cub. in this morning's news conference, zoo officials will all let everyone know how the cub's mother, mei xiang, is doing. she has slowly been returning to her normal activities sins her cub died last month less than a week after it was born. coming up next, we're following breaking news out of the middle east where i aman as -- where a man has been killed on his way to work at a u.s. embassy. we're back in a moment. n a [ female announcer ] it's one of the hardest decisions a family can make... realizing a nursing home is the only choice.

bridge. northbound i-95, backup through staff ford as you continue northbound from 630 courthouse road through quantico. delays continue leaving woodbridge across to the franconia springfield parkway. outer loop be as you approach 355, still dealing with that. that's a check of your fox 5 on-timetraffic. imetraffic. >> thank you. a big story that we're following this morning. the supreme court is debating a case that could have major implications for every college and university in america. it is about the role affirmative action plays in admissions process. the case was brought forward by abigail fisher. fisher was denied entrance to the university of texas at austin. she says the decision was based only on her race. arguments from both sides were heard by the court yesterday. the university president says the supreme court should not change the admissions policy. >> we would not be giving the kind of education to awful our students that would be

preparing them to work in a diverse and global world. it would be i asetback for our students and our society. >> i hope the court rules that a student's race and ethnicity should not be considered when applying to the university of texas. >> a decision from the supreme court is not expected until spring. the man who played a major role in turning around the district's finances in the 1990s and died. economist andrew bremer was the first director of the d.c. control board set up to oversee the financial management of the city. his appointment was controversial and drew the ire of then mayor marion barry but d.c.'s huge deficit was turned into a $300 million surplus under bremer's leadership. he was also the first african- american to sit on the federal reserve board. andrew bremer was 86 years old. coming up next, we'll go live to fox business network in new york. we'll find out how many teens

daylight. he was shot to death yesterday afternoon in the 1100 block of eighth street northeast near florida avenue and gallaudet university. police have not said whether he was a student at the university. university. a serial groper in northern virginia is believed to have struck again. here is a sketch of the suspect. the latest incident involves a 25-year-old woman who says she was groped from behind while walking near the commerce street bus stop in the springfield area. police say it is the sixth case they're investigating. the suspect is described as being about 5' 6" and wearing blue pants and a white t-shirt. today, the national zoo will release a cause of death for its newborn panda cub. in this morning's news conference, zoo officials will let everyone know how the cub's mother, mei xiang, is doing. she has slowly been returning to her normal activities since her cub died last no less than a woke after it was born. it w -- less than a week after it
